For the Happiness project, we had two socratic seminars. Socratic Seminars are small, professional discussions with a group of people. In the seminar, you are able to express your ideas and your thoughts, as well as bounce off of other ideas to form new views. They are helpful for students to start to understand the material better by seeing and hearing different perspectives. They are good to do in projects with many perspectives, and they can be helpful for students to start developing communication skills. The two socratic seminars in this project were on happiness. After reading the book, Brave New World, each student wrote a seminar pre-write to take with them to the seminar as evidence. After the seminar, we reflected on the discussion by writing a reflection. Below, you can see the book cover, my seminar pre-write, and my seminar conclusion, for the first socratic seminar in the happiness project. For the second socratic seminar, we used our happiness essay's as our seminar pre-write. This can be seen on my Happiness Project Page.
- To the left you can see the cover of the book we read for the happiness project. It was a book that had a conditioned society, who sacrificed man components for this idea of happiness. This book brought me to many interesting views on happiness, which you can see in my seminar pre-write and my seminar reflection below. |
